Travel north along the Thermal Explorer Highway (SH 5) towards Rotorua for 53km (40 mins drive). Turn right where signposted and travel a further 1km to Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland.

In our Glass Blowing Studio, the public can view the glass blowing process by Glass Artist Lynden Over. His training in glass blowing, jewellery and sculpture brings a unique quality of form to his glass work.
Lynden's work includes bowls, stopper bottles, vases, spiral bottles, galactic bowls, paper weights, pillar platters and more. All pieces are individually made, and therefore all vary slightly in shape size and design, making it an original artwork.

We are situated on the shores of Lake Taupo in the beautiful volcanic plateau of the Tongariro National Park. Taupo Tandem Skydiving is the first tandem skydive operation in New Zealand and is currently the largest in the world. The newly refurbished hostel in the town centre of Taupo! Blackcurrant Backpackers, formerly known as Burkes Backpackers, is a long established backpackers here in Taupo. Two intrepid travellers, Ross McFarlane from Scotland and Beth Aldridge from England, came to Taupo, fell in love with the place and decided to make it home. We have had the hostel now for just over a year and are busy making lots of changes….recognising that people want real value for money, comfort and a fun place to stay but with a good nights sleep is paramount in our minds.
Welcome to Taupo's original and favourite backpackers. Rainbow Lodge was purpose designed and built for the needs of travellers. Taupo is famous for its Rainbow Trout and beautiful scenery. The hostel opened in 1984 and Ross McFarlane took over in 2002 and has been quietly refining Rainbow Lodge to meet the needs of today's travellers!
Centrally located with just a 5 minute walk to the Taupo town centre and the lakefront. The YHA Taupo hostel consists of double, twin and multi-share backpacker accommodation in the main building and a fully self-contained lodge which is perfect for group accommodation. Some of the private rooms have ensuite bathrooms. The grounds around YHA Taupo have tent site accommodation, a BBQ picnic area, an actual clothesline as well as hammocks in the garden.
