The Canterbury high-country township of Methven is set to attract record numbers of families to its ski fields this winter with a special offer of free food, accommodation and skiing for
children. Lying at the foot of Mt Hutt, the South Island’s biggest commercial ski field, Methven hopes to broaden its appeal to families through its Methven Kids 4 Free deal. The deal, which will be available throughout the Mt Hutt 2012 winter ski season, offers every child under 10, accompanied by a paying adult, free return ski bus to Mt Hutt and Christchurch Airport to Methven transfers, free accommodation, and free meals. It also gives kids under 10 lift passes at Mt Hutt.

Air New Zealand’s newest Boeing 777-300ER and the last of five in its latest 777 order, arrived in Auckland last week after a 14-hour flight direct from Paine Field in Seattle. Air New Zealand Chief Pilot Captain David Morgan was at the controls and on board was Air New Zealand CEO Rob Fyfe and a small group of Air NZ technical staff.

super-jumbo. From October, Emirates is up-gauging its Auckland-Melbourne-Dubai service from the existing B777-300ER service to a doubledecker A380.

Emirates has brought Italy into its broadening A380 network after the launch of a superjumbo service to Rome at the weekend, and now provides end-to-end service by A380 between Auckland and Rome.

A massive dinosaur is coming to life in a West Auckland studio and will soon be trucked south to become a focal point of Rainbow Springs’ new water ride. The 3.5m high and 7m long computer modelled dinosaur has taken 5 staff at Mainreactor in Henderson 6 weeks to bring to life, and will be helicoptered into place at its new Rotorua home in a couple of weeks. Mainreactor specialises in props, prosthetics and models, with movie and TV work including Narnia and Spartacus.

Auckland Airport is calling on all Kiwis to vote in the SKYTRAX global airport survey, the results of which will determine the 10 best airports in the world as part of the 2012 SKYTRAX World Airport Awards. This year AKL was voted by travellers as the best airport in the Australia Pacific region for the third year running and the 8th best airport in the world – up from 9th in 2010 – out of a possible 500. It is the only airport from the Australia Pacific region to make the top-10
global list in the past three years.
